The 2015 Multicultural Rally was full of excitement and appreciation for different cultures that are on campus.

The rally started off with greetings from students of PV’s international club. Students got to see them greet and introduce themselves in different languages: German, Korean, Spanish and even sign language!

The Hype dancers boosted PV’s spirit even more with their performance. There were also talented youngsters dancing along with the older ones. They sure put on a great show!

Another dance followed, which was the Japanese Algorithm March. PV students dressed in Japanese traditional clothing, including beautiful kimonos. The marchers alternated each action that left the audience wondering about their meanings.

Up next was a beautiful Irish song sang by Kayla Jenkins. She also played her guitar to add extra melody to enhance her music.

The fun continued with Señor Jaime’s Mexican dance. There were couples dancing in unison with the other couples. The ladies awed the crowd while dancing because they created what looked like colorful, giant fans when they lifted their skirts. The boys dressed in formal, black and white clothing, leading the ladies through each dance.

Up next was the Samoan dance. This was another dance that required strict uniformity. The performers sat in a straight line, clapped and snapped together to create different kinds of beats. The audience were astonished by a little girl performing with the older ones. Another interesting component of the performance was the sound created by a man drumming with two sticks and a log. The audience cheered when the performers included the “whip” in their dance!

To conclude the rally, PV’s International Baccalaureate students announced Mr. Shepherd as the one with the most votes to be pied. He ended up with a lot of whip cream on his face!

It was a unanimous agreement that the performers showed ample courage while performing, and that PV showed respect while witnessing the different cultures. We may be different, but we are one Viking Family.
